The City of Sarnia will not be taking part in an action plan with city police to address vandalism in the community.
An amendment was made to Councillor Brian White's notice of motion Monday.
Sarnia police will take a look at action plans already in place, or modifications that can be made to them, to address and prevent community vandalism. Councillor Bev MacDougall was one of many councillors who felt those plans already exist.
"The more we make of this, the more risk there is of it happening. I, just in my own personal experience see a program, and a good program, and good advice and good service that's already there," she says.
"We're not going to stop anybody from being anybody."
Police will report back to council on its progress later this spring.
Councillor Brian White says he would hate to see a trend of vandalism prevent people from donating to the improved Centennial Park. Director of Parks and Recreation Beth Gignac mentioned Monday that the city has a meeting with police next week, and that they're looking into technology options, such as cameras, in the hotspots. Recently, the F-86 Golden Hawk memorial in Germain Park was spray painted and temporary washrooms in Centennial Park were torched.
