Aboriginal students will have more access to post-secondary education through the 'Wheels To Lambton' pilot project.
Walpole Island First Nation and Aamjiwnaang First Nation worked with local sponsors to buy two 12-passenger vans to transport students to Lambton College.
Aboriginal Student Council President White-Lightning Clark says he had to pay $50 daily for a taxi to and from school.
"My more recent semester, so from September to December, was pretty successful because of the shuttle," says Clark. "As soon as you take off the burden of not having to worry about transportation."
Clark also adds that going to school becomes a lot easier when the transportation methods become easier as well.
"The fact that I didn't have to buy taxis from Sarnia reserve to the college, going to school became a lot easier," Clark says.
The vans were part of a pilot project during the the fall semester where 12 students were able to ride them every day to get to school. The vans will make several round trips each day.
