Police have released updated numbers from their Easter long weekend Spring Seat Belt Campaign.
According to new police statistics, the OPP say that they handed out almost 800 seat belt related offences.
Police say last year they handed out almost 1,200 charges, 400 less than the previous year.
"We'd love to see 100% compliance, however the difference of 412 less charges is good, " says Lambton Constable Travis Parsons. "We are wholefully optimistic that the messages are getting out to the public: that seat belts do save lives."
He also adds that safety messages are increasing in light of the recent seat belt blitz.
"It is a matter of the public, and hopefully the public will continue to educate themselves on wearing seat belts and wearing them properly because it is a valuable part of your safety equipment in a motor vehicle," says Parsons.
During the entire campaign, police say that they were also keeping an eye out for impaired drivers and reckless driving.
