UPDATE: Sarnia Police Assessing New Information In Weekend Explosion

Sarnia police now say they're looking into any possible criminal charges that could be laid in a weekend explosion at a home on Euphemia St. Police said Monday morning that there appeared to be insufficient evidence to lay drug-related charges but Constable John Sottosanti says the investigation remains very active.

"Further information has been received surrounding the investigation by the Sarnia fire department and this information has been forwarded to the Sarnia Police Service's Criminal Investigations Branch," says Sottosanti. "The branch will be looking into any possible criminal charges that can be laid, secondary to the explosion." Sarnia Fire and Rescue Services responded to a home in the 100 block of Euphemia St. around 3:30pm Saturday. Officials suspect the explosion was caused by drug producing activity involving butane.

Fire Prevention Officer Roel Bus says the blast caused some internal damage to the residence, but there was no fire damage.

"They were really lucky that it didn't catch fire," says Bus. "There was a fireball that basically immediately snuffed itself out afterwards and there was no fire damage whatsoever."

One person was treated at hospital with non-life threatening injuries and released, another suffered minor burns.
