Sarnia City Council was told Monday that many suite holders at the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre (SSEC) are not pleased with service provided by the Compass Group. Hired in February 2015, the company provides food and beverage services at the centre.
Director of Parks and Recreation Beth Gignac says she's aware of their "underperformance" and that the group has already been under verbal probation for six months.
A meeting is scheduled for later this week and a survey is being put together to receive customer feedback.

A notice of motion by Councillor Matt Mitro fell through Monday to help 'speed up the process for naming rights at the SSEC. Council voted 5-3 against the motion, which asked the submission period to end on April 11th. It was proposed a subcommittee, consisting of the mayor and two other councillors, would be created to review previously submitted proposals.

Council tabled a staff report asking to reduce the speed limit on Brigden Rd. from Confederation Line to Marshall Rd. from 80km/hr to 70 km/hr. In a delegation, Erin McRea said she would be in favour of further reducing it to 60km/h. A staff report says there would be extra costs in creating new speed limit signs.

Councillor Dave Boushy says the Centennial Park area is a "mess" right now and that it's "sad" to look at. City Manager Margaret Misek-Evans says staff will look into measures for tidying up the area and repairing fences that are currently letting people in. City staff say they are currently waiting on approvals, including the Ministry of Environment, to move forward on developing the park.

A staff report detailing all city owned properties was prepared for council's information Monday. It's expected Councillor Cindy Scholten will present a notice of motion for a future council meeting to review surplus properties that could be sold.
