City Parks Clean-Up Day Saturday

Earth Week begins next week and the City of Sarnia Parks and Recreation Department is doing their part to keep waste away.

Members of the community are invited to participate Saturday in the second annual Community Parks Clean-Up Day.

Manager of Parks, Sports and Horticulture Patti Ross says Community Clean-Up Day is not the only day staff pick up waste.

"Initial staff has started and they are out in the worst areas that aren't scheduled on parks clean-up on Saturday," she says.

All those who register will be given a kit full of essential clean-up tools including gloves, recycling/garbage bags, paint, rakes and first aid kits. All groups will be able to choose a different section of the city to pick up garbage.

"The parks are pretty wet. They're starting to dry up. We're looking for them to dry up a little bit this week," says Ross. "We've been able to get out and start some of the clean-up in the parks this week and then we're also starting to cut grass because it's so warm."

Ross says there are still spots open for registration.

There are two separate garbage pick-ups at Canatara Park and Rainbow Park 10am to 12:30pm.

Volunteers will be treated to a BBQ at Canatara Park after the event.
