There have been 267 motorcycle and 167 off-road vehicle deaths in collisions investigated by the OPP over the past ten-years.
Lambton OPP is releasing startling statistics ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend in efforts to raise awareness around motorcycle and off-road vehicle safety.
Constable Travis Parsons says over the past ten years, there have been 267 motorcycle and 167 off-road vehicle deaths in collisions investigated by the OPP.
"What we're asking, both those who operate motorcycle and off-road vehicles, is just to be aware when travelling on the roadways or trails this year," he says. "Exercise caution and share the roadways."
Of those deaths, various factors include loss of control, speed, failure to yield, and driver inattention.
As of last year, more than half of the 267 motorcyclists were killed through no fault of their own.
Meanwhile, ten-year data shows off-road drivers continue to ride without helmets, with 74 of the 167 fatalities not wearing one at the time of the collision.
The OPP say losing control and alcohol are other contributing factors in off-road fatalities.
16 of the 167 fatalities were innocent passengers.
Constable Parsons says Lambton OPP will be on patrol "trying to make the roadways as safe as possible for those travelling over the long weekend."
