A Sarnia councillor says the city's staff complement is not ballooning out of control.
On CHOK's morning show Wednesday, first term councillor Matt Mitro refuted concerns expressed Tuesday by Mayor Mike Bradley.
Mitro says from 2013 to 2016, there was actually a net reduction of the full-time equivalent of a half person because nine hires were the result of the city assuming operation of the Sarnia Sports and Entertainment Centre.
He suggests the city has not strayed from its fiscal fitness path and staff attrition plan.
"There's a change as far as an organizational change that's being put through, because frankly, we need to modernize the way our staff compliment goes," says Mitro.
"We're not adding lots of people and in fact we will add some in the short run to lose more through time."
Mayor Bradley questioned the hiring of what he considers non-essential personnel like a communications manager.
He also expressed concern that the timeline for the city becoming debt free has been extended to 2030 or beyond.
