A Sarnia company is offering to conduct what it calls a 'complete' and pro bono investigation at city hall.
Councillors voted 6-2 last Tuesday in favour of Integrity Commissioner Robert Swayze's recommended decision to suspend Mayor Mike Bradley's pay for 90 days, after he found the mayor contravened the rules of conduct in his dealings with staff at city hall.
However, some people, including the mayor, maintain the report was incomplete and biased, because at least 20 key people were not interviewed.
Hughes Intelligence Canada says they would review the initial investigation and speak to all individuals that could afford valued information on the allegations.
President Barry Bentley says while they could move forward without council approval, he prefers to have it sanctioned by the city.
"I highly doubt that we will proceed without a check mark from the city," he says.
Bentley says the completed report would be given to city council to do with as they see fit.
"I have not reviewed the integrity commissioners investigation, I've only heard what has been spoken and a few things that have been put through the media. I haven't paid a lot of in depth attention to it, just for normal reasons. Basically, so we don't get involved unless there is a want for us to be involved."
Bentley admits it's a lengthy investigation to take on pro bono.
"It is, but it is also an important investigation. In my view, I think it's the least we could offer to the city. Being part of the city and citizens of the city and obviously a business that is located within the city. It's not about the money, it's about the needs of the community and the need for a proper investigation."
He says citizens of Sarnia deserve a full investigation and need to know the answer to the question, "Was the complaint valid or not?"
