Bluewater Power expects to reach its daily peak hydro usage for the year in Friday's heat and humidity.
President and CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis anticipates Thursday's peak usage of 198 MW will be easily surpassed.
"We're trending almost 15 per cent higher than that today, so we suspect that we will hit a 2016 peak and we'll certainly exceed the 200 MW level," says McMichael-Dennis. "The last time we exceeded the 200 MW level was about three years ago so it's a strong demand when you see temperatures like this."
McMichael-Dennis says the system is strong and she does not anticipate any power shortages.
The utility's all-time peak high is 230 MW, set in the early 2000s.
She encourages residents to save power by keeping blinds closed, notching the thermostat a degree higher, and avoiding use of the oven.
Friday's forecast high was 34 C, and 45 C with the humidex factored in.
