Sarnia’s mayor is becoming increasingly frustrated by a lack of information and updates on efforts to establish a withdrawal management centre.
Lambton County Council supported Mike Bradley's call at its meeting in Wyoming Wednesday morning, for an update from the Local Health Integration Network and Bluewater Health.
"It was five or six years ago that the county had a location and had options on it, then we transferred everything over at the LHIN's request to Bluewater Health and just a few weeks ago they were having a focus group again," says Bradley. "Without being cavalier about it, the community knows what the issue is and they know what needs to be done and we just need to get on with this."
Bradley says he doesn't doubt the professionalism of those trying to move the project forward, but with people dying on a daily and weekly basis, the need is urgent.
A proposed $10-million facility would house ten residential and six stabilization beds as well as existing community withdrawal management services.
A location for the new detox hub has not been finalized.
