Pathways Health Centre for Children is trying to fill the gap for the parents of developmentally and physically challenged young adults.
Manager of Community Services Dave Schaller says beginning in January, they'll offer a new Life Long Learning Program two days a week for challenged adults aged 19-35.
"When young adults turn 21, and go from Children Services to Adult Services, learning choices and opportunities are a lot less," he says. "Pathways wanted to be part of the solution, so we're offering life, social and leisure skills training as well as community, recreational and fitness activities. Participants will also have volunteer and Pay It Forward opportunities and the chance to learn healthy meal planning and preparation."
It's a fee for service program and will cost $75 a day which includes a lunch because there is no government funding available.
The program has room for 16 people so interested families are urged to apply as soon as possible.
Pathways will have two or three new staff members plus a supervisor when things get underway in the new year.
