A Lest We Forget flag was raised in a solemn ceremony at the Royal Canadian Legion on Front St. at the 11th hour Tuesday morning.
Branch 62 members, Sarnia police officers and Mayor Mike Bradley gathered to mark the start of remembrance days and launch this year's poppy drive.
First Vice President Jim Burgess says volunteers will be out at area grocery stores and businesses this weekend.
"Legion members, army veterans and cadets will be out standing in front of businesses with the boxes and pinning poppies," he says.
Boxes of poppies have also been placed at area Tim Hortons and at Blackburn Radio on London Rd.
Funds raised support veterans and their families. Sarnia's poppy campaign raises as much as $70,000 each year.
