Mixed Response To Lakeshore Land Redesignation

Residents in Plympton-Wyoming have mixed feelings about further residential development along the Lake Huron shore.

CAO Carolyn Tripp says about 70 people attended a public meeting Tuesday night to discuss a proposed official plan amendment for 755 hectares, nearly 1900 acres, of land north of Lakeshore Rd.

Tripp says while some favour redesignating the land from restricted agricultural to lakeshore residential, several concerns were expressed by others.

"There was definitely a concern for the agricultural lands that may be affected by this," says Tripp. "Some were concerned that if they farmed some of those lands now that they may lose that ability and we definitely confirmed that wouldn't be the case. There were other concerns about too much development in that area."

Tripp says a report will now go back to Plympton-Wyoming council for consideration at its next planning meeting, but any final decision is still months away. She notes the ultimate approval authority is the County of Lambton.

The land in question is located north of Lakeshore Rd. to Lake Huron, bounded by Mandaumin Rd. to the west and Townsend Line to the east.

Tripp says Plympton-Wyoming is experiencing significant growth, issuing on average, about 40 building permits for new homes each year.
