Vanderwal's Five Point Effort Leads Legionnaires

The Sarnia Legionnaires helped put some distance between themselves and the Strathroy Rockets, with a 6-2 win at Sarnia Arena Thursday night.

The two teams are now separated by 12 points, as the Legionnaires sit comfortably in fifth place in the GOJHL's Western Conference, ahead of the sixth place Rockets.

Cameron Rannie opened the scoring with a pair of first period tallies.

Ethan Dupont, Nash Neinhuis and Eric Marsh opened things up in the second period, while Zach Vanderwal added some insurance in the third. Vanderwal finished the night with a goal and four assists.

Wyoming's TJ Harris scored one of Strathroy's two goals, his eighth of the season, tying last year's totals.

Sarnia went three for five with the man advantage, the first time this season the Legionnaires have scored three goals on the powerplay. They scored a pair of power play goals on three other occasions this season.

The Legionnaires will be away from Sarnia Arena for four straight home games. Their next home game is February 16 against St. Mary's. They are off until next Wednesday when they travel to London.
