Lambton OPP Marine Unit Seeking Student Applications

It could be the summer job of a lifetime!

Lambton OPP is accepting applications for three marine assistant positions.

Community Safety and Media Relations Officer Travis Parsons says the students will work along side qualified OPP marine operators.

"They will be working on one of our three OPP vessels here in Lambton County," said Parsons. "They'll be assisting with conducting marine checks on recreational boaters for safety equipment, safe vessel operations and enforcement, which includes that of the Canada Shipping Act."

Parsons says it's a fantastic experience for anyone interested in getting into policing or anyone with a general interest in boating.

"There are requirements. They must be at least 18 years of age, possess a pleasure craft operators card, have a minimum Ontario G2 Driver's license, CPR and First Aid qualifications and be strong swimmers."

Parsons says good communication skills, professional appearance and previous boating experience are also assets.

He says it's a great opportunity to get a foot in the door, saying there are a few current Lambton OPP officers who started as marine students.

Online applications will be accepted until February 14.
