Sarnia will have its voice heard in provincial pre-budget consultations.
Two local Chamber of Commerce recommendations are included in the Ontario Chamber's submission to the Wynne Government.
Local President Shirley de Silva says they want broadband internet access expanded and the children of small business owners to be able to apply for student loans.
"A number of our small business owner members have indicated that their children's student loan applications have been turned down and it appears the net income of small family businesses is considered family income," she says. "Rather than re-invest in business and create local jobs that grow the economy, the small business owner is expected to liquidate their income and give it to students for their education."
The government is also being urged to address a significant infrastructure deficit by strategic investment, including funding for the oversized load corridor in Sarnia.
The Ontario Chamber also calls on the province to be more transparent when it comes to the divestiture of Crown assets including Ontario Hydro.
