Proactive Approach To Seniors Living Safely

Local organizations are being pro-active in an attempt to provide adequate support to an aging population. The Sarnia-Lambton Home Response Collaborative is hosting its fourth annual conference on issues for local seniors Thursday. Chair Tracy King says their prime objective is to keep seniors living in their homes as long as possible. "If we're doing that, we have to make sure supports are in place so people can live safely," she says. "We're finding there are a lot of seniors who are living at risk in the community without adequate support, so we want to gather as many agencies as possible to figure out how we can work together to help people live safely in their homes." The Collaborative was formed five years after after hoarding issues were identified and this year has partnered with the Sarnia-Lambton Elder Abuse Awareness Network. Several emergency response organizations, seniors housing facility owners and Lambton County departments are on board as well
