Outspoken Ratepayer Voices Concerns With Council

An outspoken Sarnia ratepayer is rattling the cage once again.

In a presentation Monday, Margaret Bird told council the public is being left behind and denied their freedom of speech, freedom of information and freedom of choice.

She says it's a violation of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms act as it appears under the Canadian Democratic Constitution.

"Up until 2.5 years ago, we were a democracy, with all our freedoms and transparency of all city spending in place," says Bird. "Now, that has all changed; everything is hidden from the public and we are not given the chance to give our input prior to motions being presented and passed by council."

Bird says the only way Sarnia can move forward is by working together as a team.

She says the public should decide whether or not fluoride is added to our drinking water and if the city needs a deputy mayor.

Bird has asked that the questions be added to the 2018 municipal election ballot.

She says that will help prove to the public that Sarnia's public servants, elected or hired, have no hidden agenda.
