Sarnia police are disappointed by impaired driving arrests over the Easter weekend.
Constable John Sottosanti says there were three incidents on Saturday alone.
"As of last year, our numbers had increased slightly," says Sottosanti. "It's hard to say what the rest of the year will bring for us, but it's disappointing to see three impaired drivers all in one day. Two of which had significant alcohol level readings and the other ending with injuries. Unfortunately, we do realize that for every one we do arrest, there's others out there committing the same crime."
At 1:30am Saturday, officers responded to a local gas bar where a 32-year-old Sarnia woman was sitting inside a car parked at an odd angle at the pump. The officer formed grounds to arrest the driver for being impaired.
At around 2pm, a vehicle travelling eastbound on Confederation Line near Blackwell Side Rd., veered into a ditch and ended up on its roof. The 78-year-old female driver was taken to hospital by ambulance with significant but non-life threatening injuries and was later charged with being impaired.
At about 6pm Saturday, officers found a man stumbling around near a vehicle in the area of Cobden St. and MacKenzie St. With the help of witnesses it was determined he had been driving while intoxicated. Police allege he blew over three times the legal limit.
Sarnia police handled a total of 224 calls over the Easter weekend.
They included 22 domestic and family disputes, ten motor vehicle crashes and 11 break and enters.
Police also issued 24 provincial offence notices for various infractions.
