Sarnia Fire Rescue has welcomed a new chaplain.
Deputy Chief Bryan Van Gaver says it's part of a new mental health initiative.
"As a part of our new Critical Incident Stress Management Team, we have several firefighters trained in mental health as well as health care professionals, " says Van Gaver. "Locally we work with Canadian Mental Health and Bluewater Health and we thought we should have a Chaplain on board to address the spiritual side of things. Mental health in all workplaces has become an important topic and we're trying to keep our workers not only mentally, but spiritually safe."
Reverend Adam Kilner of Dunlop United Church is the new chaplain.
Deputy Chief Van Gaver says the program has been well received by the firefighters.
