Winter doesn't officially arrive for just over two weeks, but colder than normal temperatures are just around the corner. The high Monday is 10C (50F) and mild again Tuesday morning with rain in the forecast. But, Environment Canada Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the mercury by Tuesday afternoon will dip to near 2C (36F) as a cold front moves in. By Friday, the high for Sarnia-Lambton is below freezing at -3C (27F). Coulson says along with the colder temperatures, comes the possibility of flurries and snow by the middle of the week and into the weekend. "We have sort of gone through a period of pretty mild weather over the last little while but it is going to be time to get those winter driving techniques back into focus over the course of the coming days," says Coulson. "In Lambton County itself, it looks like the worst of the flurry activity is not going to really be in the area but certainly anyone planning travel to the east and northeast, especially those areas to the east of Lake Huron, could be encountering winter driving conditions." Earlier weather models suggested December would continue to boast above average temperatures, but Coulson says there's a strong suggestion that won't happen. He says they've seen a dramatic shift in the forecast for the month and it does look like December overall will be colder than normal. Coulson says in the traditional snowbelt areas, including Middlesex County, they're also looking at a fair amount of lake effect snow activity over the coming weeks.
