Bluewater Borderfest Upbeat About Provincial Grant

The Bluewater Borderfest music festival will be even bigger this year thanks to a grant from the Ontario government.

It's one of 328 festivals to receive a portion of $20-million from the province's Celebrate Ontario fund, and the only one in Sarnia-Lambton.

Organizer Mark Perrin says they'll be submitting a budget proposal with the chance of securing up to $53,000.

He says the funding will allow them to increase their talent budget and expand entertainment.

"New for this year, we'll be adding some daytime entertainment which will be local artists," says Perrin.

"There will also be a food and vendor truck show. People can come down and grab a variety of different food while listening to local music," he says. "We'll then get into the headlining bands and whatnot for the nightly entertainment portion."

Perrin says the festival is scheduled for July 27 and 28 at Centennial Park and will feature rock and classic rock bands.

He says if there is enough community support and sponsorship, a country concert could be added on July 26. The bands are expected to be announced around Easter.

In its first year in 2017, Bluewater Borderfest attracted over 4,000 people from across the region.

Borderfest organizers are also working alongside The City of Sarnia and Tourism Sarnia-Lambton to host a visit by the Tall Ships Challenge in 2019.
