UPDATE: Cyclone Aid Still Accepting Food Donations

This year's Cyclone Aid food drive is being called a success despite a shortage of volunteer drivers that hampered efforts to get to every door across Sarnia-Point Edward.

St. Patrick's High School Chaplain Joseph Palko says the final total will come in later this week, but he estimates about 4,300 bags of food have been collected for the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

They're still accepting donations.

"We had about 250 student volunteers which is pretty normal," says Palko. "It does come down to drivers a lot of times and this year we just unfortunately, while we had some drivers who did multiple routes, in the end we weren't able to hit every route. Next year we'll be looking to raise our driver tally and hopefully get back out across the entire city."

Palko says donations can still be dropped of at the school during regular hours until Wednesday, or anytime at the Inn of the Good Shepherd.

About $700 cash was also collected for the Inn. The goal was to collect 40,000 lbs in non-perishable donations to set the Inn up for a month.

Around 800 of the 1,850 people that access the Inn's food bank each month are children.
