The Sarnia Historical Society has spent the past several months researching for its next book on the history of the Sarnia Police Service.
The group published its first book on the history of the Sarnia Fire and Rescue Service in 2017, and has recently received permission to review the minute's from Sarnia Police Services Board meetings, from 1913 to now.
Chair Mayor Mike Bradley is excited about the project.
"This is the first time that anyone's requested to have access to the in camera minutes going back to the 1920's and 30's," says Bradley. "There's also chief diaries from those days that no ones ever accessed before."
He says there are a lot of stories that should see the light of day.
"For example, at one point, no Catholics were allowed to be on the police service, another year they bought revolvers and the following year the bullets for the revolvers."
Bradley says the book, to be written by Phil Egan, will be titled Keeping the Peace: 160 Years of Policing the Imperial City.
Walking Through Fire: The History of Sarnia's Bravest was released last summer.
