A mailout sent out by Sarnia-Lambton's MP isn't sitting well with a fellow political candidate.
Marilyn Gladu sent mailouts across the city discussing the Canadian energy industry, and asked residents to send back their thoughts.
Local Green Party candidate Kevin Shaw says the mailouts are biased, divisive and Gladu is cherry-picking information.
"It was simple 'yes or no' question, but it's really much more complex than that, so I don't find that type of questionnaire is going to be able to produce any useful data," says Shaw. "It's really pitting different groups against each other instead of having a more adult debate about the issue."
Shaw says there are a lot of ways that you can support Canada's energy system that aren't included on the mailout.
In response, Gladu says this specific mailout was intended to explain the Liberal and NDP parties are opposed to fossil fuel and pipeline development.
The Conservative MP says the mailouts bring attention to an issue, and the simple question gets people talking.
"The question that's on there, 'do you support the energy industry in Sarnia?', is simple and I don't think that it's wrong to have a simple question. I think if the question is too complicated then people won't answer," says Gladu. "You know I would rather have something that's a lot bigger that you could put more information on, but that is the format that the government allows us to send out four times a year for free."
Gladu says oil and gas are not the only sectors that support Canada's energy system, but they're a huge part of our society going forward.
