Share The Road In Bright's Grove This Weekend

Over 400 athletes will be biking, swimming and running through Bright's Grove this weekend.

The 37th annual Bluewater Triathlon and Duathlon begins Saturday, then wraps up Sunday with the Ironkid Race.

Organizer Ken Walker says some future Olympians could be among the young competitors.

"I think this is about the 15th year that we've done [the Ironkid Race], and we will have about 120 young triathletes from age 4 up to 14 competing on an age-appropriate course around Bright's Grove," he says. "It starts at 1 o'clock, and watch out because these kids are really fast."

There are six events on the Saturday with the first race starting at 8:30am in Mike Weir Park.

The Olympic distance triathlon kicks things off, the duathlon goes next, and there's also a relay team event.

The fifth and sixth events are the sprint triathlon and sprint duathlon, which are shorter versions of the previous events.

Walker says if you're driving through Bright's Grove this weekend, keep an eye open for athletes and drive with caution.

"About 200 to 300 bikes will be going 40 km/h through Bright's Grove and Camlachie on Saturday morning, so watch out between about 8:30am and 11 am when the event wraps up," he says.

There will be about 60 volunteers helping out on the water and throughout the course.

The event supports the St. John In The Wilderness Church in Bright's Grove.
