The Sarnia Sting ended a seven-game losing streak with a convincing 7-3 victory over the Peterborough Petes before over 3,000 fans at the Progressive Auto Sales Arena.
The outcome was never in question as the Sting led 3-0 after the first period and 5-0 after the second.
Anthony Salinitri opened the scoring five minutes into the opening frame followed by a power play goal by Franco Sproviero and Hugo Leufvenius' team-high twelfth goal of the season.
Braden Guy scored two minutes into the second period and assisted on Calvin Martin's goal.
Mitch Eliot made it 6-0 with a short-handed goal 31 seconds into the third frame.
The Petes mounted a mini-comeback with goals from Cameron Butler and Adrain Beraldo 20 seconds apart midway though the period.
Curtis Egert scored for Sarnia to make the 7-2 before Max Grondin tallied for the Petes in the final minute.
Sarnia rookie Jacob Perreault contributed with four assists.
Guy, who had a "Gordie Howe hat trick" with a goal, an assist and a fight, said "It feels good for sure to get the monkey off our back. There's been a couple of games in the last seven where we should have had a better outcome than we were given but we stuck with it and obviously got the result we wanted tonight."
Sarnia outshot the visitors 38-34 with Aiden Hughes picking up the win for the Sting while the Petes shared goaltending duties between Hunter Jones and Tye Austin.
The Sting are in Kitchener on Tuesday, the first of five games on the road.
All the games can be heard on 103.9 FM - 1070 AM CHOK.
