A campaign by the Canadian Cancer Society is aimed at making sure patients can bank on free rides to medical appointments.
The Pigs of Hope helps fund Wheels of Hope transportation service.
Businesses or families can adopt a pink or blue piggy bank, and every $50 raised will cover the cost of transporting a patient to a life-saving treatment appointment.
Spokesperson Paula McKinlay said the average local client uses the service 10 to 17 times which can cost them up to $850.
"When a cancer diagnosis comes to a family, there are so many things that go through your head and trying to get to treatment should be the least of their worries," said McKinlay. "You'd be surprised how many people in this community don't have support, don't have a reliable vehicle, and just can't get there."
Last year, 53 Sarnia-Lambton volunteers drove 111 cancer clients over 204,000 kilometres to 2,455 appointments.
An anonymous donor has agreed to triple the amount raised with a gift matching donation.
Last year's campaign raised over $13,000 which funded 260 rides.
