A new Esports league at Lambton College is going to help some gamers pay for school.
Students of the new Esports Entrepreneurship and Administration program are launching a competitive Esports league, the inaugural Lambton Esports Open or LEO.
Teams will compete across three games: League of Legends, Rocket League, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
Program Coordinator Tony Frangis said some big prizes will be up for grabs.
"We got some prizes large and small, but the large prizes are going to be the scholarships that are going to go towards tuition here at Lambton College for the winning teams," he said.
Frangis said the scholarships range from $250-$1,000.
He said hopefully the winners of the event will one day be running it, just like current students enrolled in the program are doing now.
"Those students are responsible for every single aspect of the league, they even came up with the name," said Frangis. "They're responsible for the marketing, the promotion, the league management from week to week, all the technical and IT side of things-- they are doing every single solitary thing related to this league."
The weekly league begins the first week of March, and will culminate in a championship event hosted at Lambton College's new Athletics & Fitness Complex on Friday, April 5.
The competition is open to all local and regional students between the ages of 16 and older.
Registration is open until March 1. For more information, click here.
