The Sarnia fire service received a generous donation from Kel-Gor this week.
The mechanical contracting company has bought a new personal watercraft for the service's water rescue response.
Deputy Fire Chief Bryan Van Gaver said the Sea-Doo is faster than the 26-foot boat the service already has, so it'll be used as a scouting vessel, and for first aid purposes.
"We've been operating with a boat for the last few years and it served us well," said Van Gaver. "The addition of the Sea-Doo to our arsenal will allow us to split up the responding crew, two on the boat, two on the Sea-Doo, and the Sea-Doo will be able to get to the scene a lot quicker."
Nearly three years ago, Kel-Gor owner Matt Gordon used his own Sea-Doo to take a firefighter out on Lake Huron to rescue a man and his dog after his boat capsized in stormy weather.
That incident provided the incentive for Gordon to buy the fire department its own personal watercraft.
Precision Powersports in Sarnia sold the Sea-Doo, valued at $20,000, to Kel-Gor at cost.
Gordon was recognized for his involvement in the 2016 rescue with a city bravery award.
