A section of Michigan Avenue in Sarnia will be closed for up to 12 weeks starting Monday June 3.
No through traffic will be allowed on Michigan Avenue between Colborne Road and Christina Street while the roadway is reconstructed.
County of Lambton Construction Supervisor Glen Hamill said that section of road is in pretty bad shape.
"This project will be a full reconstruction-- new curb and gutters, fresh asphalt, granular base, and the City of Sarnia is doing the watermain as well," said Hamill. "We're going to be going from four lanes down to two lanes with parking on the north side-- so it's going to be like a road diet, with bikes lanes on the one side as well."
Hamill said the speed limit in the area will remain at 50 kilometres per hour once the project is complete.
Detours will be in place using Indian Road, Lakeshore Road and Christina Street to access Michigan Avenue east and west.
The project cost is budgeted for $1.2 million.
Changes include:
- Going from four lanes down to two lanes
- Parking lanes on the north side of Michigan Avenue
- Bike lanes
- New curb and gutters, fresh asphalt, and a granular base
- Installation of a new watermain and sanitary sewer at Marcin Road
