Rotary Mackinac breakfast Saturday

The Rotary Club of Sarnia is planning to cook up 4,000 sausages and 6,000 pancakes this Saturday.

The club is hosting its annual pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. under the Bluewater Bridge for those waking up early to enjoy the Mackinac Race.

Spokesman Mike Elliott says it's $7 for adults and $4 for kids.

"We're very excited, we usually serve about 2,000 breakfasts, and for those who have been there before, they know that there's a giant crowd of people enjoying the breakfast and also enjoying the boats," said Elliott.

He said it's become a tradition for many people.

"It's one of those things that reminds you of summer and a lot of families go down there and can enjoy the day," said Elliott.

Advance tickets, which allow you to go through an express lane at the breakfast, can be purchased at Haines Printing, Pathways Health Centre for Children and Manley's Basics.

Those wishing to help make the breakfast a bit greener, are also encouraged to bring their own cutlery and plates.

The first Mackinac Race was held in 1925. It's one of the longest fresh-water sailboat races in the world and one of the oldest, with sailors coming from across North America to participate.

Elliott said the Rotary Club hopes to raise up to $10,000 from the event, which will be directed back into local initiatives, including Pathway's campaign to rebuild its therapeutic pool.
