Sarnia's Rosewood Village Retirement Home is planning a special "surprise" birthday parade Friday and is encouraging area residents to join in on the fun.
Executive Director Jenica Tanguay said one of their residents, Lillian Price, is turning 100 years old.
"The parade will be starting at 2 p.m.," said Tanguay. "So, we're hoping that we can get the cars lined up by 1:45 p.m. We're hoping to line the cars up on Maxwell Street, because we are located on the corner of Maxwell and Indian."
Tanguay said the birthday girl will be sitting on the front porch.
"We have an in-and-out driveway. So, we're actually going to have everybody drive right on up through the driveway and out, so, she'll actually be about six feet from the cars when they're driving by."
Tanguay is hoping for a variety of vehicles.
"Her daughter will be the first car in the parade and they are driving a 1966 classic car. So, we're really hoping for any classic cars or if you're driving something that's a little bit different. We're looking to make it a fun time for her."
Tanguay said Price has stayed connected with her family during the pandemic through online video calls and understands the protocols and why her family can't visit her on her birthday.
She said Price raised four children and was a caregiver to her husband after he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.
Those wishing to participate in the birthday parade are asked to call Rosewood Village at 519-332-8877 to register.
Tanguay said they're just asking for names and phone numbers so they can get an idea how many cars are expected and provide instructions for lining up.
