Pandemic-modified Irish Miracle still extraordinary

This year's St. Patrick's Irish Miracle fundraiser is being termed a success, despite being forced to rely entirely on online monetary donations.

The 37th annual event brought in $5,000 from the St. Pat's community, as well as over $20,000 from online donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.

The final totals will be calculated early in the new year.

School Chaplaincy Leader Ann Clarke said the money will help hundreds of residents in need.

"This money goes directly to completing the Christmas hampers for families in our community, and also for keeping the shelves stocked at the food bank at the St. Vincent de Paul Help Centre on Davis Street."

Typically, hundreds of students and staff canvas the city to collect canned food donations, but the pandemic forced plans to be modified this year.

Donations can always be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society.
