Sarnia council endorses call for changes to COVID framework

Sarnia council has endorsed Bill Dennis' call for the province to adjust capacity limits in its COVID-19 Response Framework.

Dennis thinks there needs to be more synergy between restaurants, sporting and recreational facilities, places of worship, event centres and retail.

"As an example, the red zone currently only allows ten people indoors at a dining or a sporting/recreational facility, places of worship are capped at 30% or 50 people, and retail/small business is limited to a 50% capacity," said Dennis.

He said the businesses, in particular, can't plan properly under the current framework and it's leading to the loss of jobs and income for both workers and owners.

"These businesses and organizations have heavily invested in facility improvements and expensive upgrades to ensure safe social distancing and have all the appropriate safety and protection measures in place."

Council is asking the province to scrap arbitrary numbers on indoor capacity limits and focus more on how many people can fit in a facility ensuring strict and safe social distancing.
