COVID count up 18, heightened restrictions take effect Monday

Sarnia-Lambton's COVID-19 numbers went up by another 18 cases Sunday with heightened restrictions set to take effect Monday.

Lambton Public Health reported that the total caseload rose to 2,380. There were 17 more recoveries for a total of 2,163 which means the active case count increased by just one to 171. The death toll remained unchanged at 46.

Institutional and workplace outbreaks decreased by one to nine, and Bluewater Health had six COVID-positive patients in hospital, up one.

There were 39 new confirmed cases reported Saturday for a weekend total of 57.

The St. Clair Catholic District School Board's COVID advisory web page showed six Lambton schools with at least one student or staff case. St. Peter Canisius school in Watford was reporting 10 infected students and one staff member with two classes closed. The Lambton Kent District School Board, as of Friday afternoon, had cases in 15 Sarnia-Lambton schools. Parents of students at North Lambton Secondary School were reportedly told Sunday that cases at the Forest school had increased to nine from three.

The provincial government announced Friday that Lambton County is moving to Grey-Lockdown in the response framework effective Monday, March 15 at 12:01 a.m.
