A group of youth had to be rescued on Lake Huron Tuesday afternoon after their floatation devices were blown away from the shore in Bright's Grove.
First responders were called to the area before 5 p.m.
Sarnia Fire and Rescue Public Education Officer Mike Otis said the group needed help getting back to land after a south wind pulled them out into the lake.
"We responded with some other agencies and got them back to shore safely and everybody's okay," said Otis. "The water temperatures at this time are actually very low and could be hypothermic very quickly. It's a dangerous situation."
Point Edward Fire assisted with the rescue operation.
Otis had some water safety reminders for those heading out onto the lake.
"Always have your life jackets and practice good water safety in general. Be aware of how cold the water temperatures actually are at this time of year."
In Canada, persons are required by law to have a lifejacket or PFD (Personal Flotation Device) on board for each person on a watercraft. Penalties for not having life-jackets start at $200.
