Benefit concert aims to support local family impacted by cancer

A benefit concert will be held at Imperial Theatre next month to raise money for a local family with young kids whose father died this past summer.

Patrick Bressette died of cancer at the age of 31. He left behind a wife, Kailey Maness, and six children.

According to his obituary, the Sarnia resident, formerly of Kettle and Stony Point First Nation, died at London Health Sciences Centre Victoria Campus on August 15, 2022.

To help the family, Derek George has organized a concert to take place on November 1.

George said it was his wife's idea to hold the fundraiser.

"They have three small children, all under the age of five. [Bressette] brought home the money and [Maness] was a stay-at-home mom and so [my wife] just felt obligated to do something to help [Maness] with the upcoming bills and Christmas."

George described Bressette as a "full of life person" who was suddenly taken by cancer.

In organizing the benefit concert, George reached out to artists of different genres, including country artist Chelsie Young and soul singer Beatrice Love.

"When they heard the cause, they were more than happy to help out," he said. "They understood the predicament of what the widow of [Bressette] is going through."

Country group Brothers Wilde and classic rock cover band Chapter 11 will also perform at the benefit concert.

Tickets were initially $69 each but have since been reduced to $54 each. Tickets can be purchased on the theatre's website or through the box office.

There's no fundraising goal per se but George said they would like to sell out the theatre.
