A Junior Kindergarten student in Forest has quickly captured the hearts of residents at the North Lambton Lodge as she travels the hallways delivering their mail.
Emma Adair, 4, started volunteering at the nursing home earlier this month.
Administrator Carolyn Hodges tells Sarnia News Today that Emma seems to be enjoying her weekly task and said the residents love her.
"At the lodge we have a number of volunteer roles available, and one of the roles we established a few years back, in approximately 2018, was to have a mail cart delivery," said Hodges. "It was set up to be a guardian, whether it was a parent, a grandparent, an aunt or an uncle, with a child."
Hodges said the residents really respond to children.
She said whether they're young like Emma, or teenagers, the generation reminds them of their own family.
"We've actually had three children so far and Emma is our third. The first one we started with, was I believe around 12-years-old and she did it, originally, with her grandmother. Then we had another child after that and now Emma is our third and youngest child to be a participant in this."
Hodges said the adult must be a registered volunteer in the home.
"The guardian that she [Emma] is with, is her grandmother, Sarah Jane. They both live in Forest, so it actually is a really good fit for them because Emma is just next door here at the school and her grandmother can pick her up and bring her over."
Hodges is hoping Emma wants to do it for a few years.
She said a former volunteer built and donated the replica Canada Post mail truck to the lodge a few years ago.
