The Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign is slowly inching toward the halfway mark.
Executive Director Dave Brown said so far, they've raised $700,000 or 42 per cent of their $1.65 million needs target, which is right on pace with last year.
He said NOVA Chemicals and the Lambton Kent District School Board are both kicking off their campaigns this week and they're also now accepting orders for their frozen meal fundraiser in partnership with the Dante Club.
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 17 local agencies providing over 31 programs and services in three target areas, From Poverty to Possibility, All That Kids Can Be, and Healthy People-Strong Communities.
"A large part of our funding is going to poverty related programs and services, such as the Inn of the Good Shepherd, a warming shelter at Walpole Island and a number of others," said Brown. We know that inflation is affecting all of us, not only in the grocery store but at the gas stations. Those agencies that provide breakfast programs, or those that provide transportation services for seniors, imagine their fuel bill today versus just two years ago."
