First Friday features festive evening

Mild weather is expected for the First Friday of the festive season.

Environment Canada is forecasting a slight chance of showers with temperatures rising overnight.

Volunteer Keeley McMullin said downtown Sarnia will feature live music, cultural activities, and holiday shopping events.

"This has been going on since 2006. The summer ones are always busy because of the weather of course but the Christmas First Friday is always very popular," said McMullin.

A reinvented Weekend Walkabout and First Friday was held this past summer as part of a partnership between local businesses and the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce.

Since First (festive) Friday is expected to be busy, McMullin recommends patrons arrive around 5 p.m. for parking purposes.

"So many people aren't aware of all of the great things happening downtown, I mean new stores are opening all the time, and the stores downtown are just beautiful."

The Bluewater Chamber Players will perform in the lobby of the Judith & Norman Alix Art Gallery from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. Exhibitions at the gallery will be available for visitors to explore until 9 p.m.

Poetry and music performances will be showcased at the Turret Gallery from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The Sarnia Legion Branch 62 will also have live music and dancing from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m.

The Lawrence House Centre for the Arts Gift Shop will feature a "Homemade for the Holidays" sale.

Several downtown businesses will also have extended hours and live music. Further details can be found by clicking here.
