Gaudreau makes final cut, will play for Canada at World Juniors

Sarnia Sting goaltender and San Jose Sharks draft pick Ben Gaudreau will suit up for Team Canada for the upcoming World Junior Hockey Championship.

Gaudreau was one of six Ontario Hockey League (OHL) players to make the team, after the final cuts were made on Monday.

The 19-year-old Corbeil, Ontario native has played 22 games for the Sting this season, posting a 9-8-3 record with a 3.62 GAA and .868 save percentage.

Sting Head Coach Alan Letang is also with Team Canada, as an assistant coach.

Other OHL players on the team include Brandt Clarke (Barrie Colts/Los Angeles Kings), Ethan Del Mastro (Mississauga Steelheads), Jack Matier (Ottawa 67's), Brennan Othmann (Peterborough Petes), Shane Wright (Kingston Frontenacs/Seattle Kraken)

The squad will now take part in a five-day training camp at the Garcelon Civic Centre in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, from December 14 to 18.

The 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Boxing Day with four games, including Canada taking on Czechia at the Scotiabank Centre in Halifax at 7:30 p.m. Atlantic time.
