It will be a struggle to the finish line for this year's Sarnia-Lambton United Way campaign.
Executive Director Dave Brown said so far just over $1.2 million has been raised, or 73.5 per cent of the $1.65 million needs target.
He said with just two weeks left in the fundraising initiative, it's unlikely they will reach their goal.
"I think the goal this year will be very difficult for us to reach at this stage," said Brown. "High gasoline prices, inflation and a few changes in corporate giving philosophies have had an effect, but we know we are going to get much closer to the goal than we are now over the next two weeks."
Brown said in 2021, 25.3 per cent of the entire year's online donations were made in the last 14 days of the year.
"Hopefully that trend does continue," he said. "There are a lot of donors who like to give at the end of the year because it is the spirit of giving. People feel good that they've got jobs and they think about people who maybe aren't as well off as they are. If I could plead to anybody who has not yet given to the United Way, to please do so over the next 14 days."
The United Way of Sarnia-Lambton funds 17 local agencies providing over 31 programs and services in three target areas, From Poverty to Possibility, All That Kids Can Be and Healthy People-Strong Communities.
