New interactive touchscreen kiosks have popped up at libraries and cultural facilities in Lambton County to promote exhibitions, events, and tourism initiatives.
The county partnered with Tourism Sarnia-Lambton to provide the kiosks. Each one will also feature a brochure rack and a poster holder.
“We are excited to partner with Lambton’s Cultural Services Division to extend the reach of Tourism Sarnia-Lambton’s regional tourism promotion efforts," said Tourism Sarnia-Lambton Executive Director Mark Perrin. "We look forward to heightening the exposure and awareness of local destinations across Lambton through these important community hubs.”
Each kiosk already has Tourism Sarnia-Lambton’s Tour Ontario’s Blue Coast app and patrons will be able to scan a QR code on the poster rack to download the app onto their own smartphones.
In addition to promoting events and initiatives, patrons will be able to view nearby beaches, dining options, and available outdoor activities.
"As local residents, we can sometimes overlook the great experiences available in our own backyards, and visitors to one cultural site can be encouraged to visit other sites throughout the county,” said Cultural Services General Manager Andrew Meyer.
The kiosk project was funded by the Tourism Relief Fund grant program through the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) and the funding was allotted by the Ontario Southwest Regional Tourism Organization.
As stated by the county in a media release, the Ontario Southwest Regional Tourism Organization received nearly $11 million from FedDev Ontario to support tourism organizations and businesses impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Through the program, the county's Cultural Services Division received a non-repayable contribution of $97,000.
