The South West Woodlot Association (SWWA) is recognizing the work of its members who have actively promoted sustainable woodlot management practices.
Bertha-Rose Park and several of her family members were recently given the Woodlot Management Award and Donald Craig received the Ontario Woodlot Association’s (OWA) Harry Barr Volunteer Award.
The Woodlot Management Award is given to those who follow good forestry standards and promote successful woodlot management.
The Park family has managed a woodlot since their ancestor, George Annett, planted 85 acres of pasture between 1939-1942, read a media release from the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority on behalf of the SWWA.
Craig, a professional forester and one of the SWWA founders, was recognized for his volunteerism in promoting good forest stewardship and OWA values.
As stated in the media release, Craig has volunteered countless hours to share his knowledge and experience to encourage the development and maintenance of private forestland in southwestern Ontario.
Craig is also involved in groups such as Thames Talbot Land Trust, Forests Ontario, and Lambton Wildlife.
