Fishing kits added to Lambton County Library collection

The Lambton County Library has added to its active living lifestyle collection with the addition of fishing poles and tackle boxes for residents to sign out.

The kits are now available just in time for Mother's Day weekend.

Canadian residents can fish within Ontario for free, with no fishing license required, as part of a Natural Resources and Forestry government initiative.

Public Services Coordinator for Collections Kevin Coates said it's a great way for people, regardless of age or income, to learn a new hobby for free.

"Fishing is a great form of stress relief, provides excitement, teaches patience, and keeps you physically active," said Coates. "The library is happy to help support this activity with these new kits. This is something that quite a few libraries have in their collections. So, we thought we'd give it a try."

Instructions for pole assembly and are included with each kit, and they're available to borrow year-round.

A liability waiver must be signed, and the cost to replace a damaged or lost kit is $60.

The collection also features things like Ontario Provincial Parks passes, snowshoes, walking poles, binoculars, pedometers, and GPS devices for geocaching.
