Organizers excited about sold-out Kidney Cruise

The Sarnia-Lambton chapter of the Kidney Foundation is ready to coast the St. Clair River on the Duc d'Orléans II during the annual Kidney Cruise.

The summer fundraiser officially sold out of tickets on July 10 after approximately 150 people signed up for the event on Friday.

Fund and Community Development Officer Kate Hardy said the goal was to raise $4,000 to $5,000.

"I think it's something that's going to go a really long way for the [Sarnia-Lambton] chapter and the foundation," said Hardy.

A portion from all the foundation's fundraising initiatives goes toward research and support services for kidney patients and caregivers.

"We're also working with our renal unit here at Bluewater [Health] to revamp our comfort kits that specifically go to local patients. So we try to cover as many branches as we can, but one of those branches when it comes to our fundraising is always donated back to Sarnia patients," Hardy said.

The Kidney Cruise is a beloved fundraiser in the community that has taken place for many years. The Duc will leave the dock at 6 p.m.

The cruise will feature live music, food, a cash bar, and raffle prizes.

Although the Kidney Cruise is sold out, Hardy said residents can still donate to the foundation.
