A Sarnia Sting alumni is the newest member of the hockey club's coaching staff.
On Wednesday, the Sting announced Brent Sullivan will be joining the team as an assistant coach ahead of the 2023-24 season.
Sullivan, 33, spent four seasons with the Sting between 2007 and 2011, scoring four goals and adding 32 assists in 125 games played. The former defeceman and Carp, Ontario native also spent some time with the Sarnia Legionnaires during the 2010-11 season where he recorded two goals and seven assists in 10 games played.
The following year, Sullivan joined the Legionnaires' coaching staff as an assistant, his first coaching gig. After serving as an assistant for the Kemptville 73’s, Pembroke Lumber Kings, Kanata Lasers and Surrey Eagles, Sullivan joined the University of Ottawa Men’s Hockey Program as an assistant in 2016.
In 2021, Sullivan purchased the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) and served as the club's head coach and general manager.
In a media release, Sullivan said he's incredibly honoured, humbled, and grateful for the opportunity to begin his OHL coaching career with the organization he played for.
"Sarnia is like a second home to me,' he said. "I’m looking forward to getting to town and helping the players develop and get to the next level.”
Sting head coach Alan Letang said Sullivan's resume speaks for itself.
"And we feel his passion for the game, dedication to teaching, drive and desire to learn align perfectly with the culture and direction we are going in as an organization," said Letang. "As an alum, Brent knows exactly how great this city is and how supportive the community is of our players.”
The Sting also announced additions to the club's video Scouting and analytics department On Wednesday, including Chase Allen who joins as the lead statistical analyst and manager of special programs, and Dylan Krill who will serve as a video scout and statistical analyst.
Additionally, Jordan Jacklin, Chase Rochon, Ray Mullins, Austin Broad, and Jack Bernardo will all be joining the Sting in volunteer capacities as data trackers for the upcoming season.
