Thirty trees have been planted in Lambton County as part of the "Treemendous Communities" grant program.
The County of Lambton and the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority partnered with Tree Canada for the initiative, with support from sponsor LCBO.
Trees were planted last week at six locations: Lambton Heritage Museum, Lambton Meadowview Villa, North Lambton Lodge, Oil Museum of Canada, Lambton Public Health, and Lambton County Archives.
Staff at each of the designated sites helped plant the trees and will continue to care for them.
"The goal of this project is to increase tree canopy coverage at County of Lambton facilities," read a media release from the county. "Shade trees provide a wide range of benefits, including improving air and water quality and cooling community spaces."
Community members are encouraged to plant trees to improve the county's current tree canopy coverage, which is at 13.44 per cent.
As stated in the media release, Lambton's current tree coverage is about half of the recommended level for a healthy environment.
Tree Canada is a non-profit organization dedicated to growing Canada’s tree canopy through various programs and initiatives.
